Our Tool Box

  • Collaboration Building Basics Manual

Bakalian Consulting Group has put together a collection of basic information, materials and articles, from a variety of sources, on a number of coalition building topic areas. Some of the material references childhood immunization as the issue, but can easily be translated to any issue your non-profit organization or coalition is working on. Where appropriate, work sheets are added to assist you in assessing your organization. You are encouraged to add your logo, make necessary changes and duplicate the worksheets for your own use.

This guide is for all who are in the process of forming or who are involved in an existing community coalition, collaboration or non-profit organization. It is meant to provide basic information to help build a strong, effective organization.

If you are starting/forming a new coalition
The place to start is Chapter One (The Science of Coalition Development) and Chapter Two (The Development of Coalition Structure).

If you are reorganizing an existing coalition or collaboration
You should review parts of Chapter One (The Science of Coalition Development), and Chapter Two (The Development of Coalition Structure) to make sure that you have all parts of your structure in place.

If you are jumpstarting a "stalled coalition"
Chapter Three (Coalition Planning Process) will be helpful. Chapter Nine (Maintaining Momentum and Building a Strong Team) will provide you with tools to rebuild a strong working relationship among coalition partners. Chapter Ten (Evaluation of Your Efforts) can give guidance to enable your organization to see-its successes and shortcomings.

If you have an effective coalition but need new partners and program ideas
You should look at Chapter Four (Partnership Development) and Chapter Five (Program Development). Chapter Seven (Financial and In-Kind Resources) will give basic fund-raising information and Chapter Eight (Media Relations and Public Awareness Campaigns) will help you increase your organization's "clout and credibility" by working with the media more effectively. And Chapter Ten (Evaluation of Your Efforts) is always critical to help you document your successes which in turn helps your organization increase and maintain members, and raise financial resources in order to continue to function.

  • Immunization Service Delivery Needs and Resources Assessment

Health departments and coalitions are pursuing a variety of immunization strategies and programs. Many of these interventions are capable of raising rates. What works in one place may not be appropriate elsewhere.

How do you know where to start, which problems to prioritize, and which immunization programs to pursue?

Bakalian Consulting Group has created a data collection and assessment tool to guide you through an analytical process that identifies the status of immunizations and immunization service delivery across your community. By collecting specific sets of objective data about your area, you will be able to determine who are and are not getting immunized, where they are, and how to reach them. Questions about immunization service delivery and current outreach methods will help reveal which barriers are true challenges to achieving and maintaining high immunization coverage rates, and allow you to prioritize and focus your efforts on intervention strategies that will make a lasting difference.

This Immunization Service Delivery Needs and Resources Assessment Tool includes patient and provider information and community resources. It will allow you to find the right solutions and the most effective programs as well as potential resources in your community.

In addition, the objective data gathered with the Immunization Service Delivery Needs and Resources Assessment Tool will show coalition partners and community members where help is needed and why, giving all interested parties the same common facts and framework by which to assess and work on the problem.

Bakalian Consulting Group can provide the assessment tool and train you on its use, guiding you in the collection of data, or even collect the data for you. Once gathered, we will analyze the information and present you with specific recommendations based on your unique circumstances.

We have worked with many of state and local coalitions and health departments across the country using this analytical protocol to find the right solutions and programs based their unique data.
